September 04, 2018 – The South Huron Chamber of Commerce is hosting an All Candidates Meeting at the South Huron Recreation Centre on September 19 from 7-9:30 p.m.
“This will be a great opportunity for community members to get to know candidates and their platforms before the Municipal Election on October 11,” says Joan Brady, the Executive Director for the South Huron Chamber of Commerce.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., with a two- to three-minute introduction by each candidate, followed by a question and answer period at 8 p.m.
Pre-prepared questions and questions from the floor will be written and presented to a panel, who will direct questions to the candidates on behalf of the community.
As of July 27, there were 18 candidates in total across all municipal office positions. Candidates for mayor are incumbent Maureen Cole, current Deputy Mayor Dave Frayne, George Finch, and Tom Oke. In the running for Deputy Mayor are former Deputy Mayor Jim Dietrich and Councilor Craig Hebert.
In Ward 1 (Stephen) candidates include Greg Elliot, Dianne Faubert, Darlene McKaig, and incumbent Marissa Vaughan. Candidates in Ward 2 (Exeter) are incumbent Wayne DeLuca, Toby Clipperton , Aaron Neeb, and Barb Ferguson Willard. Running for Ward 3 (Usborne) are incumbent Ted Oke and Paul Passmore.
All candidates received notice of the meeting in advance and are likely to attend.
“With no single acclaimed positions this year, the All Candidates Meeting is sure to be an interesting one,” says Brady.
The Chamber welcomes all community members to attend the meeting and ask any questions they may have about the candidates’ platforms, their initiatives, and/or what they will do in their positions on Council in the future.
